Welcome to Pennsylvania Industrial Heat Treaters, Inc. (PIHT). We are located in St. Marys, PA, the powder metal capital of the world. We are one of Pennsylvania’s leading commercial heat treaters and one of the largest commercial powdered metal heat treaters in the US, processing in excess of 30 million pounds of powder metal parts each year.
Founded in 1987 in St. Marys, we are located in Northwestern Pennsylvania, 125-200 miles from Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo. We are equipped with integral quench batch furnaces, continuous mesh belt lines and steam treaters designed specifically for the powder metal industry. We offer heat treat and steam treat services to our customers in the lawn and garden, appliance, hand tool, business machine, and automotive industries, and others with part sizes ranging from less than 1 ounce to over 20 pounds each.
Powdered metallurgy is a technically precise method of manufacturing very complex steel and other metal parts. In this process, metal powders are formed in a mold to complex shapes, and then sintered in a controlled atmosphere to solidify the formed part.
The heat treatment of powder metal parts has a direct correlation between combined alloy powder, densities, and sintering. With more than 80 years of experience, PIHT’s production, metallurgical and sales staffs understand the relationship between heat treating and the alloy composition, molding, sintering and density of the powder metal part itself. We are QS 9000:1998 and ISO 9001:2000 registered and have a complete on-site metallurgical laboratory. Our staff of engineers works closely with our customers to ensure 100% quality parts on a daily basis.
